Installation

The framework installation itself is simply done by copying framework's directory structure into the target machine drive. The next step is to activate framework's directory paths for public HTML document publishing and CGI script execution via the setting made to Apache web server configurations. For the Perl script, it's mandatory to make it executable via Apache's CGI environment. Extra Perl modules might also need to be installed to support MySQL database connection, cookies handling, and JSON data encoding/decoding. These are the current known dependencies imposed by current framework's implementations due to the selection of Perl as its main scripting language. Creation and setting of new MySQL database account is also required before one can start the development activities using the framework. The final step is to deploy framework's web-based tools to support the development and administration of applications developed using the framework.

This installation guide given here is made based on system specifications and scenarios as follows:

  • The operating system used is Microsoft Windows 7
  • The main installation directory of XAMPP is made at C:\xampp and the Webman-framework resources are rooted at E:\wmbase.
  • XAMPP distribution version used is xampp-win32-1.7.7
Though it's specifically oriented to Windows based operating system (OS) but in general the tasks and concepts are applicable to other types of OS. Below is the major steps to install the framework into the aforementioned target system.
  1. XAMPP Installation
  2. XAMPP's Binary Paths Setup
  3. Framework's Resources Deployment
  4. Web-based Support Tools Activation
